'Little Al' at Maine State YMCA Camp

At the Tender age of only 6...I was shipped off to Y-Camp (I have the 'distinction' of being the youngest Camper ever) so that my Parents could tend the Business they were building. It really was a Treat for me to go to Camp as I learned how to make 'gimp' stuff; the famous woven-baskets for my Parents; popsicle-stick trinket holders; swam, boated and sailed; learned Life-Saving; had Real Turtle Races (we checked with the Turtles and They had fun too!); sang dumb songs and had lots of games after Mess-hall at night; and then was the famous 'Canteen' where you could get one treat a night. All-in-all it was a really great time. And as little as 2 years ago I was at a Y-Camp Reunion and saw the Wife of the then 1950's Camp Director - that was such a personal THRILL!

Then in 1954 (not sure what happened in 1953...) I became a little camera-shy (GREAT for someone who later Received a Degree in Photography!).

By 1955 I was starting to take life a little too grimly and seriously. I worked at my Parents Retail Store, Electrical Department, Radio Room and sometimes on Construction while my Sisters were playing all Summer - I still think I harbor some resentments about that. However...On Sundays, we did go out in the boat and fished which at the time was my most fun. Now just lounging on the Beach is all I want to do - in the Caribbean of course.

Thus ends the Saga of 'Little Al' at Y-Camp.
